Free WinCE compilers for CUWIN

Postby PaulBreneman » Thu Jan 28, 2010 8:38 am

I've used the CUTouch in projects in the past and I'm considering using a CUWIN device in a new project. I just released a FreePascal compiler distribution yesterday that might work good on the CUWIN. So if anyone with a CUWIN wants to try this simple test I'd sure appreciate the feedback.

There is a new (initial) TurboControl minimal distribution of the FreePascal 2.4.0 WinCE cross-compiler and fpGUI (patched by me) here (part of my educational programming project):
http://www.turbocontrol.com/helloworld.htm

fpGUI Toolkit - a cross-platform GUI toolkit using Free Pascal
http://opensoft.homeip.net/fpgui/

FreePascal - http://www.FreePascal.org/

This minimal distribution works for me on a WinCE 4.2 device - a Motorola Symbol MC1000 barcode scanner.

The fpGUI code patch is my initial hack and has several problems:
- No title bar for the program
- Only a single form at the moment

It took me a bit of work to get this far. I hope other programmers (better than myself) can now take this much further.

For a complete (and complex) IDE you might also consider Lazarus: http://Lazarus.FreePascal.org/

For an even more complete (cross-compile features and more installed components) distribution of FreePascal & Lazarus you might try the CodeTyphon distribution: http://pilotlogic.com/

Enjoy!

The WinCE cross-compile distribution near the bottom of this page has been updated recently:

It is good to see a lot more CUWIN topics on this forum during the past 6 months.

This web page has i386 Win32 and ARM WinCE cross-compiler zips that include everything needed (no install necessary) to test Free Pascal 2.4.2 with the fpGUI widget set 0.7 release (Aug 2010):
http://www.turbocontrol.com/easyfpgui.htm

The i386 Linux version is almost ready. Email me if you want to test a private copy of that distro.

Yesterday at work I started using the latest Win32 and WinCE minimal distros on that page to develop a very simple fpGUI program for a nice PDA. I'll develop mostly on Win32 and test occasionally on WinCE and the actual device.

The fpGUI set doesn't use the Windows native controls, but you can easily write a program that will work and look the same on many embedded and desktop platforms.

I also have a minimal WinCE distro with serial port code nearly ready for release.
